A new paper reveals mechanisms behind hypokalemia and arrhythmia

Why do hypokalemic individuals have a higher risk of developing atrial fibrillation? In a recent publication researchers at IEMR investigates the proarrhythmic mechanisms of hypokalemia in ventricular and atrial cardiomyocytes.

MSc Andreas Romaine has defended his thesis “Proteoglycans and integrins as keyregulators of cardiac remodelling in response to increased left ventricular afterload” for the degree of PhD (Philosophiae Doctor).

Awards and prizes

Norecopa’s 3R Prize

The winner in 2019 was Arne Olav Melleby at Oslo University Hospital Ullevål, for his excellent work in developing a better operating technique for mice in research on chronic cardiac failure.
