A rhythmic collaboration: Key articles from IEMR for Norwegian Cardiologists caring for patients with PVCs

Premature ventricular complexes (PVC) is one of the most common ventricular arrhythmias encountered in clinical practice, and although most often benign, may cause debilitating symptoms, risk of left ventricular dysfunction, or life-threatening arrhythmias.

The Stokke group at IEMR collaborates with Section for Arrhythmias at Dept. of Cardiology, Rikshospitalet, to understand mechanisms, improve the diagnostic work-up, and make treatment for patients with PVCs more efficient.

Medical Research Curriculum Student Stine Aaagaard-Nilsen, backed by leading electrophysiologists at the Section for Arrhythmias, has recently published two key articles targeted at Norwegian Cardiologists caring for patients with PVCs. An overview article in “Indremedisineren” provides a state-of-the art update on evaluation, risk assessment and treatment, while an original article in the journal of the Norwegian Society of Cardiology, “Hjerteforum”, present data from catheter ablation for PVCs from 2011-2020.

These papers lay ground for ongoing projects which will result in more publications based on this collaboration.
